Bogor is located 60 km from the centre of Jakarta or 48km from South Jakarta. Bogor had one of Indonesia's oldest kingdoms, the 5th century Hindu-Javanese state of Tarumanegara.

One of the highlights of Bogor is the Kebon Raya Botanical Gardens which has over 15,000 species of tropical plants from all over the world, spread across the 87 hectares of the gardens.

The Bogor Zoological Museum, close to the entrance of the Botanical Gardens, has a collection of over 300,000 specimens of land and sea creatures from all over Indonesia. There is also a stuffed Javan Rhinoceros, from the Bandung plateau, on display within the museum. This was the last Rhino found within the Bandung plateau.

South of Bogor is the small town of Puncak which is gateway to the Mount Gede-Pangrango National Park. Within the park are a collection of volcanoes including Mount Gede (2958m), Mount Pangrango (3019m), Mount Salak (2211m).

Puncak has become a popular mountain resort with it's cooler climate and magic views across the moutains and volcanoes and ample treks for hiking.

Not far from Puncak is an African style Safari park with lions, tigers, orangutan, zebras and giraffes - Taman Safari Park

South of Puncak is the Cibodas Botanical Gardens, an extension to the Kebon Raya Botanical Gardens in Bogor. Here they have a collection of around 5000 species of high-altitude plants from around the world.

West of Puncak is a small town called Cipanas, meaning hot water, which has nature volcanic springs here for therapeutic bathing. Also at Cipanas is the old colonial mansion of Presidential Summer Palace built in 1750.
