Denpasar is a
busy city and usually not visited by tourists though it has it's own charm
and many different interesting things to see. If you are looking for some bargains shopping then get to Denpasar. Things are much cheaper than you'll find in the tourist places like Kuta, Seminyak and Nusa Dua. There are 2 huge markets called Pasar Kumbasari and Pasar Bandung. You'll see a great selection of spicies, fresh food and vegetables as well as good priced sarongs, textiles, handicrafts and clothing. Bali Museum in Denpasar located on Jalan Mayor Misnu is open Sun-Thurs 8am-3pm and Fri 8am-1pm. There are some great displays of Balinese culture and history. Bali Bird Park and Bali Reptile Park North of Denpasar and 3.5km past the village of Batubulan are the Bali Bird Park (Taman Burung) and the Bali Repitle Park which are located right next to each other. The Bali Bird Park has over 250 species of birds including various birds of paradise from West Papua, cassowaries, rhino hornbills from Sumatra, blue Javanese kingfishers and the rarest birds, the white Balinese starling. www.bali-bird-park.com The Bali Reptile Park has a good display of reptiles from all over Indonesia and the rest of world including monitor lizards, iguanas, turtles, snakes and a number of Komodo Dragons.
