LOMBOK SCUBA DIVING
Lombok has some of the best scuba diving in all of Indonesia. Lombok is the large island just west of Bali, which has some amazing coastlines and small islands of it's coast which has some awesome scuba diving.
Scuba Diving Gili Islands - The most popular area to go scuba diving in Lombok is around the Gili Islands which are 3 small islands just off the north west coast of Lombok.
The 3 islands called Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air all have dive centres and loads of accommodation to choose from. The Gili Islands are referred to the Turtle Capital of the world as there are heaps of large turtles living around these islands.
You can go diving around the Gili Islands all year round but the best season to dive is from May through to September. Around November, December and January, during the wet season in Indonesia, the currents pick up between the Gili Islands and can produce some very strong drift diving. You really need to be an advanced diver to dive in some of the strong currents during this time.

Sekotong is home to the southern Gili islands, another group of 15 islands just off the west coast of Lombok. The Sekotong area is home to some amazing macro marine life like a huge variety of nudibranchs, pygmy seahorses, harlequin shrimp, translucent shrimp as well as other large marine life like frog fish, lion fish, stingrays, reef sharks, turtles, reef octopus and moray eels. These islands are much less visited than the Gili islands in the north. There are only a few resorts on the islands or along the Sekotong coastline. The diving around Sekotong is some of the best diving I have done in Indonesia. I have had entire reefs all to myself and heaps of marine life to see. So please don't tell anyone about this amazing dive area!! Please!
