The Selamat Datang Monument is located in Central Jakarta Tanah Abang area in from of the Grand Hyatt Hotel and Mandarin Orient Hotel. The round about has millions of people travel through it everyday.
The monument was built by President Sukarno in 1962 as part of Jakarta's beautification project.
This photo was taken from the Grand Hyatt Hotel. The rooms at the front of the hotel have excellent views over Selamat Datang Monument which is all lit up at night.
On New Years Eve there is a fireworks display right over the Selamat Datang Monument. All the traffic is stopped and the round about is flooded with people to celebrate the coming of the New Year.
An MRT (Mass Rapid Transport) subway train system will open in Jakarta in early 2019 with a station right next to the Selamat Datang Monument for access to the Grand Hyatt Hotel and the Mandarin Orient Hotel.
